The Australian High Commission Second Secretary, Candice Hooper, on Wednesday, July 10th, 2024, paid a working visit on behalf of the Commissioner to the management team of the Bolgatanga Technical University in Upper East Region.
The purpose of her visit was to inspect progress of work of construction of a day-care centre being funded through a Direct Aid Programme (DAP) grant of AUD49,834.00 under the Australian High Commission in Ghana.
It would be recalled that the Commission in the early part of this year released the said amount of grant for the project, upon it received proposal from the Management of BTU for the support of the construction of the day-care centre.
After the inspection of the project, the Second Secretary, said she was so impressed about the pace of work and, urged management to ensure that the project is completed on time to help address the gender gap.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Samuel Erasmus Alnaa, paid tribute to the Australian High Commission for such support and explained that the absence of a standard Day Care Centre at the Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU) is major concern for both female staff and students who are nursing mothers.
He mentioned that the management of the university recognized the crucial need to provide the needed support to female students, especially those who are parents in their quest to acquire higher education.
He expressed optimism that the problem would be addressed after the completion of the project and gave the assurance that the management team of the University would ensure that it is completed within the stipulated time.
“The project, is expected to be completed by April 2025, and will be a haven for female staff and students to keep their children while at work on campus and to attend to other academic activities”, he stressed.
