HCIM STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN SECOND EDITION OF JOY PRIME’S CULINARY EXTRAVAGANZA

Six female students from the Department of Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management (HCIM) of
Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU) in the Upper East Region, on August 7, 2024, participated in the
second edition of Joy Prime’s culinary extravaganza.
The six students who were put in pairs, making three groups competed against each other in the Kitchen for a spot to represent the University at the national competition level.

The event, dubbed “Big Chef Tertiary”, organized by Joy Prime’s culinary extravaganza, is a cooking
competition event, organized among Technical Universities in the country with the ultimate aim for each of the University to be selected as the best coking group to be represented at the national level for the national competition.

The Big Chef Tertiary is sponsored by Frytol Cooking Oil, Fortune Rice, and Hallmark Cafe and Chefware.
The HCIM students who participated in the event included, Baraja Bawah Achebugri and Mabel Achiisah
(Team BM), Ruth Agambire and Janent Ayine (Team Runet), Hilda Aniah and Comfort Ayine (Team
Colda).

The 30 minutes allotted to the contestants came to an end. Each team was given the chance to present their dishes to the judges for their final verdict. Team BM emerged winners, granting them a free ticket to
represent Bolgatanga Technical University in Season 2 of the Big Chef Tertiary Competition at the national
capital, Accra. The team executed the task within the stipulated 30 minutes.

In his remarks, the Head of the HCIM department, Dr. Delali Polycarp, said the event afforded the students of his department the opportunity to showcase their skills and practical and noted that BTU is one of the notable Technical Universities that blend theory with practical.

He noted that students who have been churned out from the University, particularly the HCIM department were excelling well in the hospitality industry in Ghana and beyond.
He noted that plans are far advanced to mount up a master’s programme to train more students to fit well into the job market and encouraged parents to choose the University as the preferred destination for their wards academic development.
