Associate Professor

Biography

Prof. Daniel Oppong-Sekyere (PhD) is an Associate Professor of Crop Sciences (Plant Breeding/Agronomy) with the Department of Ecological Agriculture, Bolgatanga Technical University, Ghana. Before his assumption of duty as a Lecturer, Daniel worked as an Assistant Agricultural Officer/District Development Officer with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA). Daniel has extensive knowledge in the field of Agricultural Sciences: Agronomy/Plant Breeding/Extension education, research and rural development. He has carried out various research/extension training programmes and education on good agronomic and general crop production practices, participatory farmer breeding/selection, crop storage and marketing, food security and rural development, agribusiness and youth enterprise development activities for Farmer-Based Organizations (FBOs) as well as group formation, among others, in several communities in the Brong Ahafo, Eastern, Upper East and Ashanti Regions of Ghana.

Daniel has carried out research works on drought and disease tolerance of crops, climate change, food security and rural development activities and programmes for several rural farmers and households in the drought-prone Upper East and Northern Regions of Ghana as part of institutional service to community. He has attended many international conferences, workshops and courses in the field of agriculture and its related disciplines.

Prof. Oppong-Sekyere had been an Associate Consultant for ‘Nathan Associates’ under the MADE programme in Ghana, on market assessment of onion and other vegetables in the Upper East Region. He had also been a project Coordinator for the GSOP Mango Project at Brong Ahafo, funded by the World Bank and the Government of Ghana/Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) in the Pru District of Ghana.

Daniel is currently undertaking studies in drought and foliar disease resistance in groundnuts in the Northern Regions of Ghana.

Daniel hails from Bekwai in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. He is married to Joyce and have been blessed with two children, Adom and Nhyira.
