Globally, there is the need for skilled power system engineers for planning, designing, constructing, operating, controlling and carrying out economic analysis of power system networks. Additionally, there is the need to develop the capabilities of power system engineers to carry out research aimed at improving power system operations. Ghana has in recent times undergone a lot of technological development and expansion in terms of power generation, distribution and supply of energy. This has led to high demand for electrical and electronic products and services coupled with an influx of electrical and electronic gadgets. This notwithstanding, the country faces the challenge of inadequate professionals in the field of electrical and electronic industry. This category of professionals is particularly lacking in the Upper East Region in terms of quantity and quality. Therefore, the HND Electrical and Electronic Engineering is to help address the challenges in the industry. The Programme will produce graduates with the requisite knowledge and practical skills that can effectively and efficiently produce, install, operate and maintain electrical and electronic installations.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The programme aims to give students the specialist knowledge required to enhance technical leadership in the field electrical engineering, entrepreneurial solutions and support of industries for national development.
In pursuit of our goal the following specific objectives will be undertaken:
The programme will develop the power engineering skills through expert teaching and extensive research work undertaken in collaboration with power industry partners.
