The Department of Medical Laboratory Technology is one of the six Academic Departments in the School of Applied Science and Arts. It was established in the 2020/2021 academic year making it the youngest department in the School of Applied Science and Arts. It currently offers 3 year Higher National Diploma (HND), and will soon begin Bachelor of Technology programmes. The Department of Medical Laboratory Technology was designed to provide the basis for understanding the role and practices of modern medical laboratory Technology that focuses on practical and skill acquisition. The Department has well-equipped Laboratories (Haematology, Chemical Pathology, Histopathology and Microbiology) that meet the requirements of the ISO 15189, which specify requirements for quality and competency, aimed at training, to develop and provide Medical Laboratory Services that meet the established national and/or international standards.
The Department strives to become the center of excellence for training and producing all-rounded middle level manpower Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists.
The Department of Medical Laboratory Technology has very experienced members of staff from various fields with long standing experience ranging from 5 to 25 years in both public and private practice in the Medical Laboratory industry. Some of the members of staff are faculty members of the West Africa Post Graduate College of Medical Laboratory Science (WAPCMLS) in good standing.
