About the Department

The staff and students of the Department of Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management of Bolgatanga Technical University welcome you to their career focused programmes. The department is made up of qualified and experienced staff who understand and appreciate the challenges and needs of students and are therefore always ready to offer support services to our students. The department is also well equipped with modern equipment and facilities to enhance effective teaching and learning.

The department since its inception has focused on equipping students with practical skills through practical trainings, demonstrations and hands-on trainings. Through our industrial attachment programme, our students are connected to relevant industries which enable them appreciate how the theoretical concepts learnt in the lecture room applies in the working environment.

The department currently runs programmes in the following:

  • A Higher National Diploma in Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management
  • A Bachelor of Technology in Hospitality Management
  • A Bachelor of Technology (Top-Up) in Hospitality Management.
  • Advance in Cookery

The department is also currently developing new programmes in the following areas:

  • Bachelor of Technology in Food Processing Technology
  • Bachelor of Technology in Tourism Management.

Some are employed as domestic bursars in second cycle institutions, health institutions, teachers, Managers of hotels and guesthouses and others are running their own businesses in the food industry.
